AbstractThe article presents advice for library reference service professionals to serve student patrons with autism spectrum disorders. A brief overview of the features and characteristics of autism spectrum disorders is included. Additional topics addressed include promoting awareness of autistic student needs within the library staff, the implementation of the universal design of learning (UDL) system, and community outreach in connection to Autism Awareness Month in April.
NotesThis article talked about libraries' role in providing better service for autistic students. Specific personal librarian programs could be a good way to serve targeted groups, and it should be also important to arrange regular library staff training activities to raise the awareness of helping those students better use library resources.
