Abstract

The study was designed to develop a course outline to teach 4-H members 14-17 and adult volunteer leaders (age 20+) the basic principles of draping fabric over the upper torso. The curricula was divided into three sessions: (1) draping a basic blouse with shoulder and waistline darts, (2) drafting a master pattern, (3) draping a blouse with a French dart. Data were analyzed to determine the degree of agreement among judges in assessing garment appearance and fit and in assessing the validity of the curriculum. Results revealed that the level of agreement among the judges was highly significant (p=1.001). The mean rank indicated that the participants had significant difficulty in mastering the draping of the sleeve and armhole. All areas of the curriculum received either an excellent or good rating, indicating that the curriculum was adequate for teaching purposes.
