Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the educational training needs of volunteer 4-H leaders in Indiana. A questionnaire was completed by 243 Indiana volunteer 4-H leaders that attended the 1986 Indiana 4-H leaders conference. The results of the survey showed that volunteer 4-H leaders do want and need training. Leaders attending the conference expected to improve their leadership abilities and to acquire new activities to implement in their local 4-H clubs. This study also reveals that volunteer 4-H leaders recognize that young people are to learn through their involvement in 4-H, but they do not recognize their responsibility to teach at 4-H club meetings.
