| Abstract |
Kansas State University Extension 4-H examined the types of learning situations and/or rewards which parents and youth find as a motivation tool for further learning and participation. A cross section of youth from the state of Kansas participated with 11.7% of parents reporting child involvement in 4-H. Parents reported that praise from peers would be the most motivating factor for continual participation with awards for attendance or completion of a project as a close second. Children and parents agree that self-confidence, working well with others and decision making skills are the more desirable outcomes of a learning experience.
