The relationship between adolescents' news media use and civic engagement

The 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development was used to assess whether adolescents accessed media for information on politics and current events. Findings suggest that use of news media was associated with civic duty, civic skills, neighborhood social connection and civic participation and significantly predicted civic skills and participation. Implications for further research were discussed.
