Abstract

The purpose was to study the role of committees in 4-H. The author developed a questionnaire to identify 34 possible tasks of a 4-H committee. The population for the study included 80 non-urban counties in Ohio. The study found that county committee members and 4-H extension agents generally agreed on the importance of various task categories used in the studies. Committee members with little or no 4-H advisory experience tended to see the county fair and camp as important areas. Agents and committee members felt promoting the image of 4-H was one of the highest priority tasks of the 4-H committee. Planning and evaluating programs and providing a good communication system between the extension staff and volunteer leaders were important tasks for the 4-H committee.
