Abstract

This study examined the effects of participation in horsemanship activities on adolescent self-esteem, personal horsemanship attributes, physical competence, physical self-efficacy, and physical acceptance. Sonstroem's Exercise and Self-Esteem Model, based in Bandura's Social Learning Theory, was used as the framework of this study. The results of this study indicate that participation in horsemanship activities can significantly influence adolescent self-esteem. Further study on a broader range of adolescents, not solely those involved in 4-H should be conducted.
