Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of CES held by members of the 1985 South Carolina legislature. The entire population of legislators (170) was surveyed providing 111 (65 percent) usable data. Data indicated a limited understanding of the major mission of Extension. Those representing rural areas had greater participation and involvement in Extension Service programs and activities. They were more familiar with agriculture and 4-H programs than the home economics and community development areas. The two former areas were ranked as being more important. Study recommended more lobbying efforts public awareness marketing be conducted about all programs, especially among urban populations.
