Abstract

The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the new volunteer leader to Idaho's 4-H program. Specific interest was in learning the leader's own views with respect to: the importance of training, various subject matter, their perception of 4-H, how they preferred to gain their new information and what audio-visual aids have the most impact on them. A questionnaire was designed and administered via telephone to leaders across the state. A random sample of 86 leaders was selected from those leaders who had zero or one year of leadership experience as indicated on the 1979 county 4-H enrollment forms. Data were computed using a frequency analysis of the variables, and cross tabulation of selected variables. Eighty-two percent were female. The survey indicated that 65 percent of those responding did not participate in any type of 4-H training after becoming a leader.
