AbstractThis paper presents a critical analysis of the current socioeconomic situation associated with the technology used by disabled people. It explains how companies, funding agencies, and users can promote good practices for overcoming existing barriers. In addition, the article discusses different considerations with the intention of forcing the reader to rethink of accessibility more as a philosophical change rather than a technological contribution. NotesThis paper discusses the web accessibility issue in the socioeconomic context. Other than viewing it from a technological perspective, the authors proposed that the issue should be reconsidered as a philosophical issue. Based upon this, it pointed out several problems with regards to end-users, application developers and web managers. In conclusion, it suggested that multiple roles, including companies, funding agencies, and users need to advocate good practices in improving web accessibility for disabled people.
