N1 - Examines the provision of books to rural areas of the Solomon Islands focusing on the period starting with the establishment of the Solomon Islands Public Library in 1968.  The National Library of Solomon Islands was established in 1974 with the aim of reorganizing existing library services and extending reading services to the entire nation. Concludes that progress has been made in extending library services to rural communities, despite barriers including; staffing and training, relevant materials, decentralization, finances, and transport.
