AB - The introduction of any new medium of communication into a social setting is an event worthy of investigation by students of human communication. The introduction and spread of printing in eighteenth century Ireland is particularly interesting for a number of reasons:(1) The introduction of printing into Ireland was late--a full century after its development;(2) The spread of printing in Ireland was slow--printing was uncommon anywhere outside of Dublin for two centuries after its introduction to Ireland;(3) The effects of printing, once the technology was assimilated into Irish life, was to encourage the spread and flow of printed material in English rather than the Irish language.
