AB - Linking devices are those devices built into catalogues to connect or link bibliographic records for related items. Linking devices include: catalogue entries (multiple entries, common main entry headings, analytical entries, cross references, added entries); uniform titles; and other linking devices (edition statements, series statements). Linking devices used for bibliographic relationships were designed to take advantage of the book and card formats of the catalogues. Without thought of improvements that might be made in the computer environment, many of the old devices for expressing relationships were embodied in on-line catalogues. Explores new linking devices that will take best advantage of the computerised formats of future catalogues
