Gonzalez (1931-2018) served as the head of the library of JUCEPLAN, the body responsible for economic planning in Cuba after the Revolution. From 1967-1987, she was library director at the Casa de Las Americas, an organization dedicated to fostering cultural ties across the Americas. In 1987 she was appointed National Librarian of Cuba and director of the José Martí National Library.
