Annotation
The university developed from a priests' seminary founded in 1564. A new library building, to serve as a state and seminary library for 400,000 volumes, opened in 1965. Then university status was granted and a new central university library opened in 1986, with branch libraries for religious education in Munich (75,000 volumes) and for economics in Ingolstadt (83,000 volumes). The 'Aula' faculty library opened in 1997.
