This article discusses the early development of the American Numismatic Society (ANS) Library in its richer historical context, congruous with developments in numismatic scholarship and the Society’s promotion of numismatic research. This article also focuses on the ANS librarians. A general discussion of special and numismatic libraries is also presented.
