Asa Don Dickinson, an American librarian, served the University of the Punjab during 1915-16. A law graduate and a student of Melvil Dewey, his achievements in India included:- improvement in the status of university librarians, the introduction of library education at university level; the introduction of modern methods of librarianship; the beginnings of a professional literature; and influencing the decision to hold a conference of librarians
