Abstract

In Germany, public libraries were a central feature of Catholic adult education activity and carried on the work of Catholic schools. By the time of the Nazi takeover a strong system of Catholic public libraries existed in Germany. Examines Nazi efforts to promulgate a new theory of public librarianship with the goal of weakening and supplanting Catholic public libraries.
