The Development of Botwsana's National Library Service

Botswana's National Library Service (BNLS) began during the Protectorate with seven circulating book boxes, followed by community self-help reading rooms and in 1967 a Library Service Act. The growth of BNLS branch libraries, reading centres, mobile units and school book boxes demonstrates a national commitment to full public library service. Responding first to recreational reading, then to literacy requirements and educational needs, the BNLS enters a new era in the 90s, coping with the management of information.
