The Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek Warburg (KBW) originated from the private library of German art historian, Aby Warburg (1866–1929), and reflected Warburg's eclectic interests. Over time the library transitioned into a "semi-public" library open to scholars and with connections to the University of Hamburg. In 1933 the library contents were transferred to London. It has remained in England since.
