An overview of ethnic serial publishing in Canada from the latter part of the eighteenth century to the 1990s. The early section focuses on the German immigrant press. Includes discussion of two publications published by and for the Black immigrants fleeing slavery in the United States.
Later sections discuss presses established by immigrants from Britain, Ireland, Scotland, and the United States, as well as Jewish, Polish, Ukrainian, Italian, Armenian, Chinese, and Japanese publications. The last section discusses publications established after World War II, including for communities from India, Korea, and the Middle East.
Does not include discussion of serial publications issued by Canada's Aboriginal peoples.
