The Yuma Territorial Prison opened in 1876 and closed in 1909, before Arizona became a U.S. state. Madora Ingalls was the wife of Prison Superintendent Frank Ingalls. She advocated and raised money to establish the prison library. Addie Ingalls Kline was the first librarian of the Yuma Carnegie library from its opening in 1921 and served until 1957.
