| Abstract |
During its existence, the first French-speaking library school in North America, the École de Bibliothécaires, issued more than 700 diplomas, including 134 bachelor degrees. This article describes the difficulties encountered by the school's staff. Using the documents written at that time, the authors analysed the school's objectives and curriculum. They identifed the visions held by the librarian and the library as portrayed in these documents. They also highlight the important contributions of the school's promotors, whose efforts allowed the profession to develop in Québec.
