The Libraries of English Bishops, 1600-40

The aim of the present study is to take a particular professional group within a defined timespan — English bishops of the first four decades of the seventeenth century — and bring together such information as can be gathered about their libraries. We can then look for consistent patterns (or the lack of them) in the contents and size of these collections, and in the importance their owners attached to their continued use after their deaths.
