Abstract |
The first of these papers looks again at the opening of Manchester's first public library in 1852, and the celebrities who attended. Though the library was intended for the working classes, the latter had no role to play at the occasion. Secondly, a sketch is provided of the career of George Chandler, chief librarian of Liverpool's public libraries between 1952-1974.
