Margaret Monroe (1914-2005) was a faculty member at Rutgers University Graduate School of Library Service, 1954-1963. She was the director of the Wisconsin-Madison SLIS from 1963-1970 and remained on the faculty until 1981. She served as president of the Association of American Library Schools. Her research focused on public libraries and adult education and in 1985 (ALA) created the Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to library adult services.
