Publishing and the Book Trade in Sub-Saharan Africa: Trends and Issues and Their Implications for American Libraries

This article examines developments in publishing since independence, important scholarly and fictional themes, writing in African languages, and the role of state-supported collective, and religious publishing houses. It also addresses the innovative and cooperative methods American librarians have developed to collect, access and preserve African publications.
