L'Esprit de Miami: Une relecture du "Discours sur la Négritude" d'Aimé Césaire

            The author examines the text of the speech given by Césaire Feb. 26, 1987, at a conference on Negritude, Afro Cultures and Ethnicity in the Americas organized by the writer Carlos Moore at Florida Atlantic University in Miami, Florida.  The lack of focus on the text by researchers is due, argues the author, to the failure of researchers to frame the speech in the contexts of the racial situation in Miami, the history of racism in United States and the Americas, and the experience of other groups that have suffered from the domination of a more powerful society, for example the French Canadians by the anglophone population of Canada. The author finds that Césaire’s speech is different from but complementary to that given at the same meeting by Léopold Sédar Senghor.  Césaire’s is synchronic in nature, attuned to the current situation in the Americas, while Senghor’s is diachronic, rooted in the history of humanities.
