About the Global Building Network

The built environment accounts for a significant percentage of the world’s energy and resource use and is one of the top greenhouse gas emitters. In the developed world, buildings consumer over 70% of the electrical power generated and 40% of the carbon dioxide emissions from combustion.

The rate at which these issues are being address needs to be drastically accelerated. The Global Building Network (GBN) is an initiative of Penn State and the United Nations Commission for Europe. It aims to advance building science, construction process, and building management in order to create an international framework that will make buildings more sustainable, more efficient, and healthier for people.
