Locke arrived in Bourdeaux on 26 March/5 April 1677, on his way to Paris to meet his new pupil Caleb Banks. Unfortunately, the journey left Locke injured (a blow to the head) and sick (“a tertian ague”) and he spent the next six weeks recovering before resuming his journey on 8/18 May.

There is a gap in Locke’s Journal between 26 March/5 April and 30 Apr/10 May. However, Locke was not completely inactive during this time; the 35 pages of his journal contain the following undated entries:
