MS. Locke f. 21

A medical notebook used by Locke between 1669 and 1675, and again between 1679 and 1681. Includes Sydenham’s tract on smallpox, in Locke’s hand (pp. 3-17), and Locke’s notes from Sydenham’s lectures mostly in shorthand (pp. 17ff; some of these (pp. 40, 66, 61, 82 were copied in longhand in MS. Locke c. 29, ff. 19, 23, 25, 27). None of the notes are initialed by Locke. Locke’s index according to his method of commonplacing is at pp. 364-365.

8o. 148 × 90 mm. [A]-[Y]8 [Z]4. pages i-iv, 1-374 = 376 (pp. 240-363 blank; p. 396 is treble). Bound in calf, with raised bands and blind tooling on the spine.
