MS. Locke f. 23

A bound volume in which Locke entered medical notes, 1679-81, 1689-1695. The date “81” is inscribed inside the front cover. There is an index according to Locke’s method of commonplacing (pp. ii-iii); bound behind the notebook is a copy of Pharmacopoeiae Londinensis remedia (1578) with the title page missing.

The early entries are cross-referenced to MS Locke c. 42 and were probably written in 1679-81. Locke apparently left this notebook in England during his exile in Holland, but resumed using it in 1689; the latest note (p. 120) is dated 1695. Most of the notes are in shorthand. A number are initialed by Locke.
