The plot is based on an experience of Joe Mowod, a trainer of racehorses at The Meadows Casino and Racetrack in Washington County.

Filming locations included Pittsburgh International Airport in Moon Twp., Allegheny County, the Meadows Racetrack in North Strabane Twp., Washington Co., and Ohio Valley Hospital in Kennedy Twp., Allegheny County.

The film was later re-released as Amazing Racer.
