PY - 2015 RN - Sam Hazo (1928- ), son of Lebanese and Syrian immigrants, was born in Pittsburgh and educated at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, the University Notre Dame, Duquesne University, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was founder and director of the International Poetry Forum, which closed in 2009 after 43 years and more than 800 visiting writers. In 1993, Governor Robert Casey named him the Commonwealth's first State Poet. He is the McAnulty Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Duquesne University.
