Abstract |
The hapless Pittsburgh Pirates finally find success after their curmudgeonly, foul-mouthed, manager, Guffy McGovern (Paul Douglas), ceases fighting and cursing in exchange for on-field assistance from a team of angels. Bridget White (Donna Corcoran), an eight-year-old orphan and rabid Pirates fan, is the only person who can see the angels, and forms a friendship with McGovern.

Notes |
Based on a story by Richard Conlin, a pseudonym of Rev. Richard F. Grady, S.J. (1905-1989).
Action shots were filmed at Forbes Field in April 1951 and include the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning and cameo roles by Ty Cobb, Joe DiMaggio, Ralph Kiner, and Bing Crosby.
MGM chose Dorothy Kinglsey to write the script because she was a devout Catholic. MGM chose George Wells to back Kingsley because of his successful baseball script for Pittsburgh's Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Esther Williams—Take Me Out To the Ballgame (1949).
