Freddie Lee Johnson III, raised in the Washington, DC area, earned a BS from Bowie State College and masters and doctorate degrees in history at Kent State University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a communications-electronics officer and infantry officer with the reserves. Freddie lives in Holland, Michigan and teaches history at Hope College.
