As Jane DeLuca (Whoopi Goldberg) and Robin Nickerson (Mary-Louise Parker) drive from New York to Los Angeles, they stop in Pittsburgh to pick up a third friend, Holly Pulchik (Drew Berrymore). Jane and Robin help Holly escape an abusive relationship, and the three form a strong bond as they drive across America.
