Abstract |
Clara Kelley emigrates from her impoverished village in Galway to Pittsburgh, where she is mistaken for a Protestant with experience serving wealthy Dublin families, and offered a position as a ladies' maid in the Carnegie household. As Andrew Carnegie's stock rises, he takes an interest in Clara, and she must decide whether to risk her position, which she would likely lose if a romance were to sour.
