This PEN/Faulkner Award-winning novel was inspired by the author’s mother, who researched 13 unmarked Bedford County graves, and learned they belonged to runaway slaves.
Author Biography
David Bradley (1950— ), born and raised in Bedford, Bedford County, graduated from Bedford High School and the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches creative writing at the University of Oregon.
