Abstract |
When an unidentified corpse is discovered in the Bull Creek Mine, a Coal and Iron policeman takes into custody an Italian immigrant who is alleged to be a member of the Black Hand, a Mafia branch in Western Pennsylvania. Milo Kachigan and Helen Sorby investigate and the case leads them up and down the Black Valley, the coal seam along the Allegheny River from Verona to Natrona.

Author Biography |
Karen Rose Cercone (1957— ) co-wrote a dozen Star Trek novels under the pseudonym “L. A. Graf,” which stands cleverly for “Let's All Get Rich and Famous.” Cercone, who holds a PhD in geoscience, earns her living as a professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a MFA from the University of Pittsburgh Writing Program. She lives in Trafford, Westmoreland County. |
