David Harum is a small-town banker, horse trader, sage, and charlatan who solves everyone’s problems but his own. While most of the novel is set near Syracuse, one subplot takes place in Western Pennsylvania where Harum guides a young man to oil wealth.
Author Biography
Edward Noyes Westcott (1847-98), born and died in Syracuse, was a local banker who, on a leave because of tuberculosis, recuperated by writing David Harum (1898) in the Adirondacks and in Italy.
