The story is set in Clairton, Allegheny County, which is represented on-screen by footage filmed in Clairton, Pittsburgh, and McKeesport, Allegheny, as well as five towns in West Virginia and Ohio.

Deric Washburn (1937— ) was born in Buffalo, raised in Providence, and educated at Harvard University. He is a screenwriter.
