Abstract |
Warren Spalding and Betsy Tyler visit 1880s Western Pennsylvania by way of a time-travel machine called the Instant Commuter, invented by Warren’s grandfather. When the kids are first assigned a school report on the 1889 Johnstown Flood, each agrees that it is too dangerous to use the Instant Commuter. Instead, they interview 95-year-old Doc Keeton, whose parents survived the flood. However when they hear that Doc’s baby sister, Anna, had died in the flood, Betsy and Warren can’t resist time travel in order to change history and to save little Anna’s life.
