Abstract |
During a blizzard in 1964, orthopedic surgeon David Henry must deliver his wife Nora's fraternal twins. Paul is born a perfect baby boy, but Phoebe is born with Down Syndrome. Dr. Henry charges a nurse, Caroline Gill, to take Phoebe to an institution to protect his wife. Instead, Caroline flees to Pittsburgh where she raises the child.

Author Biography |
Kim Edwards (1958- ) was born in Texas and raised upstate New York. She earned a BA in English at Indiana University Bloomington, an MFA at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and a PhD at the University of Pittsburgh. She teaches writing at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.
