Abstract |
Opal, an African-American teen living near Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, is best friends with Marianne. However, things sour quickly when Marianne abandons Opal for drugs and another high school crowd. The story of Hannah, a runaway slave who settled in the town in the 1840s, is a parallel storyline that haunts Opal.
