Abstract

Cartier and Felice Cadel host several couples for a weekend-long house party at their estate in Coalville—a fictitious, Ohio River mining town. A whodunnit ensues as Betts “Mouse” Smith, a party guest and the novel’s narrator, plays detective.

Author Biography

Louise Rose Eppley (unknown-1975), educated at Ohio State University, taught at the University of Wisconsin, Washington State University, and Brooklyn College. A novelist, Eppley was a regular contributor to The New Yorker.

Rebecca Fordyce Gayton (unknown-1964) graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1916. She was a civic leader in Youngstown, Ohio.
