Abstract |
After 20 years of snooping on cheating spouses, private investigator Ernest DeWalt begins teaching literature courses at a small college in Menona, a fictitious Monongahela Valley town. When a colleague is killed in the throes of an affair, the widow convinces Ernest to investigate.

Randall Silvis (1950— ), born in Madison Twp., Clarion County and educated at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, is a novelist and playwright. He won the 1984 Drue Heinz Literature Prize for Short Fiction.
