Abstract |
The film adaptation of Chobsky’s 2010 novel in which Charlie, a shy, introverted, and depressed high school sophomore, comes into his own when befriended by two confident seniors, Patrick and Sam. “Intellectually precocious, Charlie seems a tad too naive in many other ways,” says Booklist, “yet his reflections on family interactions, first date, drug experimentation, first sexual encounter, and regular participation in Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings are compelling.”
