Abstract |
An Indian medicine woman leaves her tribe to marry a Scandinavian fur trapper and to run a tavern near the Forks of the Ohio. “She is content to be the understanding wife of a handsome ladies’ man,” reads the dust jacket, “until the sheriff bans her from the territory. The details of Indian medical lore are interwoven with the story of the Indian woman meeting and marrying the white man and their escape from her tribe.”
