Teenage punk rocker Rupert Marshetta (Keanu Reeves) and his older, hippie girlfriend (Amy Madigan) kidnap Rupert’s miserable, coal miner father (Fred Ward) to gain the family’s money and flee small town life.

The film was shot in Allegheny County's Pittsburgh and Harmar Twp., Butler County's Mars and Zelienople, and Washington County's Houston and Smith Twp. The script is now held in Beverly Hills at the Margaret Herrick Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Author Biography
Ron Nyswaner (1956— ), born in Clarksville, Greene County, is a screenwriter and activist. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he's best known for his 1993 screenplay Philadelphia about HIV/AIDS and homophobia.
